Red-yeast rice: is a product of fermented rice on which Red yeast is grown on Monascus purpureus. It has been used in China for a century as cuisine food and medicine to support blood circulation.
Statins which is a byproduct of fermentation lowers the effect of bad cholesterol, boosts the level of good cholesterol and reduces the levels of unwanted fats known as tryglycerides. These are achieved by limiting the production of cholesterol in the liver.
It is recommended to the users to take one red yeast rice tablet 2-3 times every day, not many times in a week with a glass of water or a meal, or as recommended by your physician.
It is important to note that red yeast rice should not be taken alongside other cholesterol prescriptions such as lovastatin and mevacor, during lactation periods or pregnancy or for persons under the age of 20 years.
