This fruit comes from the small tree, know as the Acerola (Malphighia glabra) growing the the dryer area of Brazil. It's fruit is soft when ripe and rather tart.
It is a popular, commonly used fruit for a drink as North America drinks orange juice.

In Brazil this fruit is eaten by the handful for  fever and diarrhea. Its helpful powers include but not limited to; improving high cholesterol readings, anemia, and has the ability for healing wounds.

It has shown great promise for checking diabetes and pain from arthritis, because it has anti-inflamatory properties.  Because it has the ability to reduce water retention it is a powerful diuretic. Another important function, it kills fungus. To sum up this wonder fruit, it is a powerful antioxidant.

While its main consumption is by drinking, it can also be consumed by tablet.

In America, this tablet is usually taken for relief of common cold and flu symtoms.
